Portrait Painting Art Classes Singapore

Immortalize Loved Ones with Portrait Painting

Presidents, queens, and celebrities are often immortalized in painted portraits, but you can capture the essence of your friends and family members on canvas through a portrait painting class.

Start with a Basic Sketch

In your portrait painting class, begin with a light, basic sketch to outline and shape your subject’s features. Use a small, thin brush and light-colored paint like pale tan or cornhusk blue to create this preliminary sketch. Once satisfied with your sketch, it will serve as a blueprint for your final portrait.

Mastering Color Mixing

Learn the art of creating realistic skin tones by mixing combinations of brown, red, white, black, yellow, and blue. Pay close attention to mixing paint for hair and eye colors, as they are rarely a single solid hue. Understanding color mixing and theory will be crucial for achieving lifelike results.

Capture Distinct Features

Focus on capturing what makes your subject unique. Instead of painting every strand of hair, use a broad brush to apply the main color for the hair. Once the paint dries, add highlights and sheen with a medium brush, considering the lighting. For final touches, use a small brush to add wisps of hair and enhance the realism of your portrait.

Add a Creative Twist

If you’re already familiar with traditional portrait painting, consider adding a touch of humor or creativity. Experiment with painting a humorous portrait featuring a funny expression or create a serious portrait of a pet to turn tradition on its head.
