Mosaic Art

Art Workshop Available too!

Though the tradition of mosaic art dates back to ancient civilization, the practice of it is still alive and well. Mosaics offer a lively and wide-ranging way to express different patterns, moods, shapes, and scenes. Take a class on mosaic art to start making your mark on the artistic genre.

By definition, mosaics are works of art created through the relationship of small pieces of medium. What the smaller medium is depends on the artist and the project. Through expert instruction, students taking mosaic art classes will be able to tailor projects to their personal interests. This includes choosing what type of medium to use to construct the mosaic. Some examples include stones, leaves, twigs, tiles, glass, paper, recyclable materials, photographs, and more. The medium used in a mosaic can reflect the theme of the overall artwork. For example, if the mosaic is of a tree, twigs, pebbles, and leaves can be used to construct it. If the mosaic shows people, small portraits of individual people can be arranged to illustrate the bigger picture. Anything can be turned into medium for a mosaic, within reason.

Sessions will focus on developing realistic and attainable mosaics in nearly every setting. This includes translating a mosaic plan to reality. Students will learn how to implement their ideas into actual mosaics. They will also gain experience in different types of mosaics, including the different skills required for mosaics on floors, ceilings, walls, paper, canvas, jewelry, clothing, and more. Any surface can be used for a mosaic. Additionally, pupils will learn that mosaics can be any size or shape. They can cover a table, an earring, or a window by using ceramic tiles, glass beads, or tissue paper, respectively.
