Pereira, originally from Brazil, taught himself how to paint. His inspiration often comes from inside his own sleeping mind.
“Some of the ideas for my ‘Dreams’ come from my sleep,” he said. “Some from things I see at work or just walking around. My dream is to have an opportunity to go to art school.’’
Pereira recently had the opportunity to show a number of his artworks at the gallery of the Ashland Library in Massachusetts. His bright works impressed a number of visitors to the exhibit.
“I usually don’t like abstract art,’’ said Scott Chalmers of Ashland, “but the colors of these pictures just grab me.’’
Sometimes, Pereira looks outside himself for painting inspiration. He has incorporated found objects in his paintings — anything from a tree root to a pumpkin shell.
“Everywhere we look, Mother Nature shows us hope, freedom, harmony, strength, and her love for us,” he said.
Though Pereira continues to paint, he knows his artistic journey is far from over.
“I know I need to learn more about art,’’ he said. “After work, I’m tired. I paint and I feel better. This is what I love.’’
Even if you already have a background in art or painting, it’s never too late to enroll in an art class for additional instruction. The more you learn, the better you will be able to create your artistic visions. Painting classes can be easily tailored to students who want to learn more advanced techniques to supplement their art knowledge.
