Mixed media art is a celebration of many different types of artistic types, techniques, and methods and how they can come together to make a wholly unique art form.
Perhaps you have already taken a class on acrylic painting and are proficient in the art form. If you already have sketching skills under your belt, as well, a mixed media art class would be the perfect way to unite those two passions into something you didn’t expect. Painted works could take on new detail and dimensions when certain aspects of the piece are enhanced with penned enhancements. Likewise, drawings completed in pen could be given new life with a little paint. Mixed media art has the ability to tie completely different artistic genres into new and wonderful masterpieces.
Mixed media can describe anything from collage work to paintings that showcase more than one artistic medium, such as charcoal and pen or any other combination of materials. Art can range from 3-D sculpture to sculptural relief paintings to 2-D drawings. The greatest limitations to mixed media masterpieces are the limitations in your own imagination, and highly trained mixed media art teachers are on hand to help you see past what you thought you knew about art to reach a new level of creative energy.
If, for example, you’re adept at sculpting with clay, mixed media art tutors will challenge you to incorporate other materials into your clay work. This could be wire, glass, paper, paint, or other mediums you might not have worked with before. The goal is to embrace the unexpected and to push your comfort level to new limits in creating art pieces you’ve never tried before.
